Norsk Medisinaldepot AS (NMD) is one of Norway’s biggest suppliers of pharmaceuticals and health products, including both retail and wholesale distribution operations. NMD has approximately 3,000 employees and a fully owned pharmacy chain, Vitus, with more than 300 pharmacy stores of different sizes all over Norway. There is also a franchise concept, Ditt Apotek, for independent privately owned pharmacies.

One platform for the entire operation

The headquarters and central warehouse are located in Alna, north of Oslo, while a large part of northern Norway is served from the distribution centre in Harstad. NMD is also a third-party logistics (3PL) service provider that enables many international producers of medicines and health products to distribute their branded products in compliance with Norwegian market requirements. The multi-client support in IMI’s Warehouse Management System makes it possible to tailor the services and warehouse processes to the needs of each 3PL client.

IMI’s Warehouse Management System is used at both sites to enable high-performing warehouse production with very short lead times and strict traceability requirements, integrated with advanced picking automation and conveyor systems. The challenge

NMD needed to centralise supply chain operations and warehouse sites, and improve integration and visibility across channels and legal entities for order management, logistics, invoicing and distribution. They also wanted to explore digital commerce opportunities to serve their customers better.
