Five women - five perspectives shaping IMI

Some of the best conversations we have internally never make it outside our walls. Yet those discussions – about careers, leadership, collaboration, and the future of our industry – are often the ones that shape who we are as a company.

At IMI, one of the things that truly sets us apart is our gender balance. In an industry where women are still underrepresented, we have come close to an even split between women and men, with equal representation in our management team.

To share some of the perspectives that contribute to that culture, we asked five women at IMI to reflect on their professional journeys, what inspires them, and what they’ve learned along the way.

Emma Öster IMI

Pride beyond the CV

For many professionals, the most meaningful achievements are not always the ones listed on a CV. For Emma Öster, what matters most is the sense of community within the team.

“I am proud to be part of a team that lifts each other up, shares ideas, and celebrates both small and large successes together.”

According to Emma, the part of her work that may not always be visible on a CV — but that makes it meaningful — is contributing to the team and workplace community.

Lovisa Edstam IMI

Finding the right path

Career journeys rarely follow a straight line. Lovisa Edstam initially chose logistics because of her interest in optimisation, data analysis, and strategic problem-solving.

What started as a coincidence eventually became a rewarding career within supply chain software. “Today I get to help customers solve real challenges by developing and improving system solutions. I find the work both enjoyable and rewarding.”

Sandra Lundegaard IMI

Making the industry more visible

For Sandra Lundegaard, increasing visibility is key to attracting more women to the industry. Supply chain software is often perceived as highly technical and male-dominated, but the reality is much broader.

“The work is not only about technology – it’s also about problem-solving, analysis, user experience, and understanding complex business flows.”

By highlighting both role models and the variety of roles available, Sandra believes more women will discover opportunities in the field.

Sølvi Hedquist IMI

The importance of role models

Role models can shape both careers and leadership styles. For Sølvi Hedquist, inspiration comes from the former Norwegian national handball coach Marit Breivik. Through decades of involvement in the sport, Sølvi developed strong values around teamwork and leadership.

“If I were to highlight one leadership quality, it would be the ability to bring out the best in others.”

Emma Lowe IMI

Confidence through experience

Working across countries and cultures has shaped Emma Lowe’s professional journey. Over the years, she has learned the importance of trusting her own expertise.

“I have learned to speak with confidence and trust that I belong in those spaces.”

Her experience has also reinforced a key lesson: diversity of perspectives strengthens both engineering and problem-solving.

Emma Lowe, Operations Manager

“Gender equality is not just about numbers. At IMI, we actively support women’s career development in several concrete ways. This can include tailored training, individual career plans, or leadership programs that give women the opportunity to be visible, take responsibility, and grow in their roles. The goal is for every employee to feel that they have both the tools and the opportunities needed to take the next step in their career.” Says Ebba Olofsson, HR Business Partner

Olofsson also emphasizes that it is important to create a workplace where both women and men have equal opportunities to grow, take on leadership roles, and contribute to the company’s growth. Through strategic initiatives, HR actively works to achieve a more balanced gender distribution, including in the management team, where we are proud to have reached parity between women and men. This involves careful recruitment planning, inclusive selection processes, and regular monitoring of gender distribution so that the goal of balanced representation is always clear and can be followed up.

The experiences shared by Emma, Lovisa, Sandra, Sølvi, and Emma reflect something we value deeply at IMI: the power of diverse perspectives and supportive teams. In an industry that still has progress to make when it comes to gender balance, we believe change happens through intentional choices, strong role models, and cultures where people feel they belong.

By continuing to highlight voices we hope more people will discover the opportunities that exist in supply chain technology – and feel inspired to be part of shaping its future.
